Seal Your Grout
Posted by powerflooring in Uncategorized on November 11, 2010
As a flooring contractor I know how important it is to seal your grout. It is a service that I offer with new tile installation but not one that many people choose to do. Most people pass on professional sealing in favor of doing it themselves to save some money. This is fine, because it is not that hard to do but most people put it off for so long that they forget to do it. The result is grout lines that become overly soiled and dark within a few years. When this happens, the only way to fix it is to hire a professional carpet cleaner to come in and clean the grout lines. This process alone will cost a few hundred dollars for the average size kitchen. So, seal your grout in the beginning and save some money.
How hard is it to seal grout?
Not hard at all. You simply apply the sealer to the grout line and let it soak in for a few moments. After a few moments, you wipe off the excess and allow it to dry. You can seal the average kitchen in just a few hours and for less than $20.
Where can you get grout sealer?
Grout sealant is available at all home improvement stores. Just ask someone or look for where they sell the powdered grout.
Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo flooring is an increasingly popular type of flooring. It has a number of advantages over traditional hardwood but is one that is not thought about by most people. Here are a few of the advantages of Bamboo flooring.
Renewable
Okay, all wood flooring is made from a renewable resource, but Bamboo grows much faster. You can grow bamboo much faster than you could grow an oak tree for example.
Durable
Bamboo is an extremely hard type of flooring. It is actually harder than many other sources of wood flooring. Something that might dent a traditional floor would bounce right off a bamboo floor.
Beauty
Bamboo is a very beautiful type of wood and one that will add a unique touch to your home. It seems that everyone has a traditional wood floor these days. Wouldnt you like to say that you have something different like Bamboo.
Choosing Carpet
Posted by powerflooring in Uncategorized on November 9, 2010
When choosing a carpet for your home, you need to first consider how the room will be used. Will it be a formal room, only used a few times a year or will it be a family room that gets used and abused 12 hours a day. The type of room dictates the type of carpet you should buy, it you want it to last.
If you have a formal room that is not going to get much use, you can choose a light colored carpet. White and off white carpet should only be used in rooms that are not going to see much use.
If you have a heavily used room like a family room, you should choose a carpet that is much darker in color or speckled to hide soiling. It will wear just as much as a lighter carpet but the damage will be much harder to see so that it lasts longer.
Whichever color you choose, you should be sure to choose a Nylon or a Wool carpet(if you can afford wool). Olefin and Polypropylene carpets will wear very quickly. YOu should consider them only if you need a carpet that will not last long. They are inexpensive and good choices for rentals and homes being sold.

After you have decided to take the plunge to laminate flooring, you need to research your alternatives. The prices for laminate flooring can vary quite a bit based on the quality of the flooring and the features designed into it. Choosing the right one for you and your budget can be a difficult task but it is crucial for the success of your project.
In general, you want to try to purchase the best flooring for your particular budget. The first step therefore is to decide what your budget is. Do not try to go to cheap but also do not stretch yourself out to far. You need to be able to afford to keep living in this home.
Now that you have your budget, you need to figure out how much flooring that you need. Measure the size of your room or rooms and then add ten percent for wastage.
Finally, take your budget and divide it by the square footage of the flooring that you need. This is your budget for laminate flooring. Now, take this amount and shop around at at least 3 major retailers. You will find that the cost of laminate varies quite a bit from retailer to retailer.
